Pictures from the Gala Meeting Great Electrical Engineering Picnic
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies held great picnic for all of the electrical engineers who were once part of the Faculty, as well as the students who are currently attending the Faculty. The main objective of the picnic was networking among the engineers from different generations and reminding of the good old student days. The picnic was attended by more than 7000 guests. Even the heavy rain on the day of the event did not ruin the good ambience and the fun the attendants had.
The picnic was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty, professor Mile Stankovski, PhD. A very interesting part of the event were the various exhibitions such as the old computers exibition, the exhibition of the cheating materials caught by the professors, the exhibition by the student magazine “Elfasko” and the exhibition held by the ELEMA photographic club. The guests also had the chance to enjoy tasting of special wines, test their IQ and visit the laboratories of the Faculty. Different competitions were organized by the Faculty: Robomak (Robots’ competition), computer games and Games without limits. Famous bands and performers, as “Leb I Sol”, “Area”, “String Forces”, “Chalgija Sound System”, “Baklava”, “Igor Stanoevski Blues Band” and three DJs, Jovan, Aleksandra and Nikifor contributed to the entertaining part of the program.

Telematics, telemedicine, environment monitoring, home applications and control, security and surveillance, industrial applications like process industry automation and agricultural applications are examples of potential applications of wireless sensor networks. Thanks to its broad range of possible applications and potential to change the way we interact with our environment, wireless sensor networks have gained a lot of attention in the research world and are becoming increasingly popular in business world as well. The goal of this summer school is to:
- survey the most relevant research domains
- present various perspectives and underlying technologies
- identify the most important challenges and research themes
- interact with distinguished scholars and establish contacts that may lead to research collaborations in the future
The intended audience consists of post-graduate students, PhD students, and young researchers from universities and industrial laboratories around the world. We expect about 40 participants.
PROGRAM (tentative)
The summer school will last for 5 days and will feature a number of different activities
- Lectures: Each day will feature lectures and discussions around a research theme like programming of sensor networks, integration of WSN with mobile networks, security in WSN, ZigBee vs. Bluetooth, remote health monitoring, etc. Lecturers include Srdjan Krco (Ericsson Ireland), Kees Lokhorst (Wageningen University), Sotiris Nikoletseas (University of Patras), Martin Ouwerkerk (Philips Research), and Konrad Wrona (SAP Research).
- Participants Workshop: All participants will have an opportunity to present their own work and involvement in
the field.
- Social activities: One day is scheduled for an excursion, a dinner party will be organized as well as other social activities which should help to form a community among the young researchers.
VENUE
The summer school will take place at the Faculty Electronics and Information Technology ( http://www.elka.pw.edu.pl/ <https://mail.eemea.ericsson.se/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.elka.pw.edu.pl/> ), Warsaw University of Technology ( http://www.pw.edu.pl/ <https://mail.eemea.ericsson.se/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.pw.edu.pl/> ), Poland.
Warsaw ( http://www.e-warsaw.pl/ <https://mail.eemea.ericsson.se/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.e-warsaw.pl/> ) belongs to one of the most dynamic cities in the world. It has been the capital city of Poland and an important cultural centre for four hundred years. In recent years, this metropolis with its 2 million inhabitants has developed into one of the most interesting cities in Eastern Europe. The oldest and most beautiful part of the city on the Vistula is the Old Town, which has been declared a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO. Not without reason Warsaw is also called the green city. Not only is it surrounded by the circle of forests of the National Kampinowski Park and Celestynowskie, Otwockie, Chojnowskie Forests which belong to Mazovian and Chojnowski Landscape Park but also houses the real treasures of nature within its borders. The beautiful parks, squares and forests around the city favour the relax in the bosom of nature. I t is also worth visiting the area of Vistula River. The queen of Polish rivers divides Warsaw freely meandering in its channel, half wild, creating islands, backwaters and sandy beaches. Vistula causes that vibrant with life metropolis, seen from the bird`s-eye view, looks like beautiful, green island.
Warsaw is the city in which modernity meets with history at every turn. One can see the marks of bullets in old walls but modern architecture successfully competes with the monuments. This city, famous for concerts and festivals, is attractive for the music enthusiasts. This is the city of Frederick Chopin and Chopin Competitions. The city resounds with music of a great romantic and jazz music and very modern music created by the young generation of Polish artists. One may listen to it in concert halls, in the Old Town or in clubs. The clubs favour social meetings - clubbing, that is fashionable entertainment for which the youth of Warsaw, especially students who constitute a group of 300 thousand active, young citizens of this almost two-million metropolis, has liking. It is also worth becoming convinced that in the promotional slogan: "Fall in love with Warsaw" there is no exaggeration!
REGISTRATION, COSTS and TRAVELING
Participation is open to all qualified applicants, but the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 40. If we receive more applications, we will select participants based on their work area and background, geographic distribution, and date of registration.
To indicate an interest to participate, please fill in the form available at http://www.senzations.net/ <https://mail.eemea.ericsson.se/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.senzations.net/> send an e-mail with the pertinent information (name, contact information, research area and background) to srdjan.krco@ericsson.com.
